So yesterday morning while the family was getting ready for school and work, our elder son comes in to our bedroom with a tale of woe about his sore back (mainly due to growing pains) and how it might be easier for him to have a day resting it rather than going in to school. Knowing that he had double PE, and knowing that getting out of double PE is a favourite hobby of his, I decided that I would be firm. So I told him that the best thing for a bad back was to keep moving and being active and I was sure it would feel better as the day went on. He went out of the room grumbling and I turned to pick up my jumper to put it on .....
..... at which point I put my back out in spectacular style

He quickly turned back (he hadn't even got right out of the doorway) and said very pointedly, "now you will be going in to work, won't you Mum, because of course the best thing for a bad back is to keep active". So what could I say

"of course I am, don't be silly" - well I lasted until 3pm, which was the time of my chiropractor appointment. I spent yesterday evening in agony, and am going back for my next session on Thursday. I am now at home resting (and keeping gently active of course). I have a huge list of do's and don'ts until it gets better and himself is having to do all the work on his own until I can get back into it all.
Next time I will just let him have the day off - it will be less painful in the long run, because someone up there is having a laugh at my expense with this one.
