Kids Today!

Post by Roboframer »

It was my Grandson's (Kirk) 7th birthday last Thursday, he's in to lego lately, so I sent him a Lego 'City' set, a harbour type thing, boat, coastguard tower etc, wasn't cheap. Also sent a birthday card I made myself with a picture of Stewie from 'Family Guy' scrutinising a piece of broccoli on a fork and a caption "Hmmmm I wonder if Kirk would eat this"! and inside "NO - I didn't think so, bring me a big mac NOW"! The message went straight over his parents' heads.

He lives on junk food and junk TV .... and computer games. He intoduced me to 'Family Guy' and when I asked him what it was, he said 'Oh, adult humour'!! In the episode we watched the world had changed to one where dogs ruled and the dog (Brian) had Stewie on a lead, Stewie dropped his pants went off-screen and returned screaming 'PICK UP MY POO! PICK UP MY POO'! Kirk was literally rolling about the sofa, punching a cushion and practically piddling himself laughing.

He never rang or emailed to thank me for his present/card and I went up to Milton Keynes yesterday to see the tribe (my 3 children live there) and he never thanked me then either. On a sideboard was the lego 'Pirates of the Carribean' ship - £120's worth, and the set I'd bought was also built, in his bedroom, as was a not-lego-but-just-like-lego transformer kit, a fighter jet that could also be a robot. I said "Wow, Kirk, you're really good at making Lego, all this in 4 days" Well, it turns out he doesn't actually make it, his Mum made the ship and two different uncles made the other things, he did help, but mainly the figures! MAD - the fun in lego, or any other construction set, is the making of it, surely!

Next year I'll be buying him an indoor vegetable garden with a postage paid 'thank you' note!

Here's his birthday cake, my son made it. 'WolfKirk' is his online gaming name, note the dismembered action figure! Bottom left is a 'jelly swamp' the action figure has a leg missing and just out of shot is a snake with the leg in its jaws. Nice!

Really, what are we teaching the youngsters today....

....the lighly armed soldiers in the cup cakes are attacking a heavily defended enemy position without any cover or air support, no wonder the one in the swamp got eaten! (Happy Birthday!)....
