Morso F v Framers corner guillotine

Hi All,
Trying to decide between a Morso and the framers corner VMM guillotine. The problem is that I am located in the Rep. of Ireland and cannot get my hands on a second hand Morso. For the price of buying and bringing one over from the U.K I could buy a new VMM and they would deliver it for 65 euro. Everybody swears by the Morso but does anybody have a Framers corner guillotine and if so are they any good. I would be very grateful of any comments observations or advise.

Hi Breery and welcome to the forum,

The Morso is not regarded as the best for nothing, it will literally last you a lifetime and more besides, it is also a beautifully engineered product and all it's competitors are imitations of the Morso, which is ample testimony to the fact that Morso got it right. Both the Morso and the VMM will get the job done. The VMM is made to a lower price than the Morso, there are differences between the two machines and some of these differences will be cost related.

Given the choice, I personally would want the Morso as I believe that you get what you pay for, but buying the VMM will not put you at any major disadvantage, or affect your ability to do a good job. If there was anything seriously against the VMM, there would have been at least some negative comments to this effect on this forum and as far as I know I've never seen any such negative reports.

In view of the difficulties in finding a secondhand Morso in the Rep of Ireland, buying a VMM makes good sense from a practical perspective and when starting a business most of us need to stretch our available funds a long way. There must be some forum members who use the VMM and hopefully someone will be willing to give you some feedback.

Thanks very much Mark. As luck would have it (and this forum) it looks as though I may have found a Morso in Dublin. Will let you know how it pans out.

If the blades on the vmm are the blades I am currently reviewing on another thread, then initial findings are they are superior to the Morso blades, I did have a look at the vmm at the spring fair and as Mark stated it is pretty much a copy of the Morso design but to my eye it all didn't look as finished as the Morso.

We have a Hanson which is also a Morso copy, we have had it for 15 years and all that it has had is a new handle for moving the head, a Morso one fitted it.

In the time we have had our Hanson my parents Morso which was also purchased new has had 1 x new case, 2 x new handles a bunch of new springs and 2 x new pedals both machines have worked very hard , the major difference being I look after mine, lubricated and cleaned every Monday morning, it is still pretty much as new,.

hi brian , if you go on done deal at the mo there is a morso for 1500e for sale at the mo. i dont know what condition it is but its probably worth a call any way. i think its in business oppertunities and he's in dublin.

Many thanks to all for the useful info. I have decided to buy the second hand morso in Dublin that I was offered through this forum and am expecting delivery on Thursday. Brilliant forum and I will be logging in regularly from now on. Thanks again, Brian.

hi i work for a company where we are changing over from pre-cut and pre-molded stretcher bars, to making our own using 1" MDF strips router and morso v framer and i am wondering how many strips i will be able to cut through at once to cut down the length of time it takes me.
