Cassese CS79

Hi..

I have a 3 year old CS79 that recently has started to leak oil onto the top plate. Seems to be coming up through screw fixings. Today particularly bad, about a teaspoon full spreading all over the place. Purchased from Wessex, so will contact them tomorrow but wondered if anyone had an ideas where this is coming from? I expect out of warranty. (I have not put oil in myself for any reason).

The cs79 does not contain any oil so it cannot be originating from your underpinner, whats above your underpinner?

Hi Mark. Nothing above it and only me using it. I certainly haven't spilled anything over it. The oil gets worse as I am using it. It is definitely clear oil - you can smell it.

Could be worth even more if its producing its own oil but don't tell BP

But seriously the oil must be coming from an outside source, i take it the underpinner was new when purchased and not second hand?

Could the grease/lubricant for the hammer be a source?

I've had my Euro manual for 30 years and it's never seen an oil can. Generally, oil just assimilates dust and clogs up the works.

Never had hands-on exp of the CS79 but can't imagine why it would need a reservoir of oil anywhere on it.

I've used one and never got any oil out of it, get a video up of it in full flow

As already stated it must be coming from the hammer lubricant

It's been years since I used one but as far as I remember it's just the same as a CS88, just in a different dress. No oil reservoir

Took it apart last night. Nothing to note except lubricated (not me personally). Can only think that lubrication worked it's way to the surface due to heat. My workshop has lots of big windows and the temp can be extreme sometimes. It will have to run out sometime so I won't worry.
