Can anyone help me in the printing of "giclee prints". I would like to start producing "giclee prints" of my own art work. Any one knows what machinery is required. Can anyone give me advice on these "giclee prints".

I will be at the Décor show in Atlanta USA in September….I understand that there will be a bucket of suppliers for the Glclee print business there if I find anything of interest I will let you know…

From what I have read on the US Grumble www.grumble.com the best printers for Giclee are Epson….but then the types….yes I’m saying types of scanners have to be considered…..for valuable originals you cannot let the scanner head touch the original….and you have to consider the size of the original art also..

Angelman - the first question i would ask is why? there are a lot of very competent proffesional printers offering Giclee printing at very reasonable prices - you have the advantage of calling for prints as and when you need them - the repro will have been done on proffesional standard kit and printed with high quality inks on high quality paper - if you spec it to FATG standard. You can sell the finished product confident that it wont fade etc.

If you want to keep complete control over your own production then i would go to someone like Senocio http://www.seneciodigital.co.uk they can advise you on suitable kit - scanner - printer - inks and specialist paper. They have been in the business for many years and know what they are talking about.

I was in the Graphic Repro business for many years - and i know what to look for in a good reproduction - I can honestly say that I have seen some of the worst prints ever produced with the label Giclee - remember the old addage - rubbish in - rubbish out - if you dont scan work in to a high enough quality you will not get good results - I framed a very large - very expensive Giclee canvas the other day - wonderfull picture - awfull reproduction with a tone range so shortened that it was flat with grey shadows - classic case of an artist reproducing his own work without understanding the tonal range required when printing in four colours.
The process of reproducing work is much easier now - but its also much easier to spend a lot of money and not achieve the results you were expecting.
