Hi all.
I'm looking for some advice on framing some large posters - 1.5m x 1m. The posters are of significant value, so the question is one of conservation. If jumbo mountboard is 1525mm x 1015mm then the board will not be big enough to mount the posters.
Any suggestions on how I can get around this?
Thanks in advance.
Paul

Re: Framing Large Posters
Paper items this size are really too big to use a conventional window mount. Adding a say, 3" border to an already huge
poster means a lot more glass area and therefore weight. Aesthetically, posters don't need a wide window mount in the same
way watercolours and drawings do.
I like to use a wide, flat moulding with a spacer. This can be a slip or a square spacer that tucks under the rebate and is not
visible. In the latter case you would need a very wide rebate which is why I prefer the slip method.
The trick is to lift the slip at the back with a strip of linen tape so the edges of the poster are not crimped and room for movement is allowed.
The poster itself is hinged on a backboard in the same way you would do a float mount.
Here's a picture in case all that was confusing.
