Could anyone point me in the direction of canvas/tray mouldings for canvas minatures. I have three to frame and he's keen on ornate, gold mouldings. I have found a couple of plain canvas mouldings in the Lion catalogue but need some more ornate ones. Many thanks.

Hi Anna,
The best bet I think is to frame in a plain wood tray/float moulding you could paint gold then frame around it with an ornate gold moulding covering the back of the tray moulding, It is best to have a 5mm gap on each side of the canvas and choose a tray moulding that keeps the painting surface level with the top of the tray.
Try Larson Juhl they have a good range.

This is why I do 99% hand finished mouldings nowadays. I can make anything given time and budget.
On the face of it you just need to make a basic tray frame and put an ornate moulding around it, but finding a suitable
'off the shelf' ornate moulding is not easy.
Could you give a more detailed description of what you are aiming at? Size, etc?
I doubt you’ll find it off the shelf, a mix of contemporary/minimalistic and old fashioned/traditional.
You’ll probably have to make it yourself and if you can find a deep enough moulding it’s easy - screw it to a board, or a strip of wood, fill the rebate with a slip, or something.
I happened to be searching the Simons site the other day and spotted this one which I thought was long gone.
It might be close to what you're looking for...
Yes as others have said it's a DIY jobbie this one.
If it were me I'd be looking for a bare wood obeche tray like Lion's L2427 and then sticking something like the Rose & Hollis egg and dart strip to the top maybe? https://www.roseandhollis.co.uk/product ... -egg-dart/
