Firstly, my apologies that my first real post is a gripe... !!

So..... Mrs Smith comes to see you about a picture frame for her new painting. You agree the mount/glass/frame and also the price. let's say in this case an abitrary £ 100.00.
Great, off she goes happy as larry. When you come to do the job you find that all sorts of things go wrong. Things like a scratch on the glass or a smudge on the mount or a blemish on the moulding.....Okay, you should have noticed these things and not got into the elongated build. Anyway.... Mrs Smith comes in to pick up the aforementioned masterpiece and you tell her " Sorry, but it took longer than I thought so the price is £ 145.00"

Can you imagine what Mrs Smith would say to you................I can !!

How come when I put my daughters car in for a repair that was ( verbally ) quoted at £ 730.00 the bill came out at £ 1012.00. bacause "it took longer than they though and it needed afew more bits "!!!
No phone calls to tell me. Nothing, just a bill £ 280.00 bigger than anticipated !

Mrs Smith could easily have said No Thanks ....Take the picture out and I'll go somewhere else. You can't really do that with a gearbox repair can you?

Hah ! Can you imagine how cheesed of this little picture framer is ???

What I do nowdays is to leave a written instruction with the car when dropping it off that any additional work requires prior authourisation.

I found that when garages do routine servicing they find extra ways of extracting your hard earned...

One of the commonest is to charge you for "screen wash" at about a fiver a time and of course if you have back and front screen washers that doubles! I tell them I will buy my own at Halfords for 99p and it lasts for a number of top ups.

Aanother is to say charge you for 5 litres of oil when the capacity is only 4.5 so you need to ask them for the spare 0.5 litre to use for topping up.
