Re: Underpinner...

Hi! I bought a CS-88 new about 3 years ago and have been very pleased with it. I would agree with the sentiment that it's better to get decent equipment straight away, rather then get 'cheaper' stuff to start out with. I made that mistake...whilst it's good to start somewhere it DOES cost more in th...

Re: Arqadia Pack Quantities

Aha!!

Just tried using the catalogue (which is handy as the pics are 'life size'!) in conjunction with the information on their website...and now it all makes sense!

Thank you all for pointing me in the right direction!

Arqadia Pack Quantities

I have just got my Arqadia moulding catalogue and am about to put in my first order with them. I was just wondering how many lengths there might be in a pack? I realise this will vary between mouldings, but I just wanted to get a rough idea of how large a 'pack' of moulding might be (as opposed to a...

Re: New member - mitre cutting

Hi Gareth! Welcome to the forum! When I first started out I bought a similar guillotine and found it was fine for finding my feet. You just have to cut your lengths slightly over-length and then you're able to shave off small amounts to get the right length. After a while though this procedure becom...

Cassese CS88 Lubrication

Just after some general advice on which bits of my CS88 to lubricate! When I bought it it came with a bottle of lubricating oil, so obviously it needs some somewhere! I'm assuming the pulley wheels might need a bit of oiling, but would appreciate some more specific info on what else needs to be oile...

Thanks to both of you for your advice...I now have a clearer idea of how to go about things and what to look out for! Will post a pic of my humble effort when it's done!

Fitting spacers to moulding

I'm just about to do my first framed rugby shirt and am thinking of using a deep rebate moulding like Lion's EDR mouldings (on page 34 of their catalogue). They sell 'matching' glass spacers to create the depth for the box frame. My question is how do people usually fix these spacers to the main mou...

Re: Cutting glass by hand / Toyo glass cutter

I buy my float glass from Wessex in 914mm x 1220mm size...wouldn't want the sheets to be any bigger to be honest. I cut all my glass with a Silberschnitt hand cutter and find it quite manageable. You obviously need a flat work space to lay the sheet on, so a table smaller than these dimensions would...

Re: Lion. Cassese magnetic head

Ian

I ordered one of these when I got my new CS88 and have found it really useful...by sliding the head in and out I can accommodate all the mouldings I work with. I'd certainly recommend one!

Re: Tight mitres

Allan I can only add that I bought the Logan joiner when I was setting up and eventually narrowed my poor mitres down to the Logan just not having enough 'oooooomph' when putting the wedges in. I bought myself a Cassesse CS88 and have been very happy with the improvement in mitres. Whether you buy o...

Looks great! Is that a St Andrews University degree I spy?! I graduated from there in 1987 and ordered the optional Latin degree certificate which looks very impressive framed. Guess quite a few things have changed since I was there, but, no doubt, I would still recognise most of the wee town.

I use a Silberschnitt oil-filled cutter and have no complaints with it...I suspect that technique is as important as the cutter being used :)

How safe is float glass?!

Having just completed a 40" x 28" inch frame using 2mm float glass I started to wonder what the largest size of glass is that would be considered safe in a frame. Obviously weight becomes a factor when glass size increases, but I am more interested in the safety aspect of large glass areas...

Welshframer - thanks for those tips/suggestions. I'm thinking of doing some work on my garage to element-proof it with a view to framing there. Am currently working in a spare bedroom which has become my 'workshop', but the extra space in the garage is beckoning! Guess the storage of mouldings and a...

Thanks to everyone for their advice...having done some more research I have just put my order in for a new Cassese CS88 which should be arriving on Wednesday. Newbie saying Hello and asking for advice!

Having lurked in the forum for a couple of months I have finally registered...so hello to everyone. I have found the forum to be of great help so far and hope the framing veterans here will allow me some leeway when I, no doubt, ask seemingly stupid questions! Well, I am new to framing having attend...
