attatching cloth to a cut mount
anyone got any good ways of glueing a piece of cloth to a cut mount?tried various ways but its very hit or miss,any help would be good

backlighting a frame
been asked if i can do a backlight frame for a load of film cells,any one fitted lights in a frame before?with them being original cells is heat going to be a factor in lighting the frame?any ideas would be good at this stage,thinking at the mo of using low heat leds with maybe a mirror behind the l...

thanks louise,maybe the guild could work on something specific to the framer or maybe an article in the abt about it,as far as i can tell so far,there aren't many jobs that dont carry a risk,you should have seen the splinter i got the other week,and i cant find gloves that stop that,one of many pote...

have to do the risk assessment on the workshop and no sure how to go about it,anybody done theirs?would be helpful if there were any scottish framers that have done it just in case there are any variations with the h & s laws

been given an early 20th century photo in its original frame but with the glass missing,the customer wants it to go as is in a new frame with both sides showing (has a description on the backing paper) my problem is finding a neat way of suspending the frame without it touching the glass either side...

i use an arqadia obeche moulding 155 400? 000,its plenty deep enough and lion do a 19 mm spacer both of whitch can be stained to suit although black seems to be the favourite,i use mount card template inside the shirt and then tag it through a larger piece of mountcard backing,its easy enough to hid...

one set i did had no clips on them so i cut very narrow windows in a piece of mountcard 2-3mm and just wider than the ribbon,then the material was glued to the card,when it was dry i cut the material at the slots with a scalpel and the ends of the ribbon were passed through,as they were all sewn the...

self adhesive foamboard would be nice,but i dont think i can get it long enough,the pic is a good 10" longer than any of the jumbo card i can find,and even if i could find foamboard big enough it would cost a fortune to get it here,part of the joys of island living i'm afraid

was going to use the glass as a weight and have plenty of boxes of paper available so the bookshelves can stay as they are,but the pva sounds like it might be the way to go

havent looked that closely at the paper yet steve,pretty much just unrolled it to measure it,did seem a fairly heavy paper if i remember right,the biggest problem with contracting it out is transporting it off and back to the island in one piece,having seen what the carriers do around here i wouldnt...

i'm getting a fairly valuable print to frame,it is going in a pretty exposed spot,not quite outside but near as,and close to the sea (part of a WW11 memorial ),its going to have to be watertight,im no sure on what to use for the back,i think the aqua barrier backing boards will be too light and mdf ...

i had a lot of problems with an ordanance survey map a couple of years back,it had a funny waterproof surface on it and wouldnt stick and wrinkled in the frame without being stuck down,i ended up sandwitching it between two pieces of glass and that sorted the problem
