Re: Framing a Cricket Shirt
The question I would ask about the second example is "is it wise to overlay items in front of the jersey?" In time there will be some fading and if one were to remove the jersey it will more than likely reveal different colouring in those areas where something has been over it This jersey ...

Re: What would you do?
I see no problem with a photographer using my framing services requesting his sticker be applied to the back of each frame unit completed at his request - I would rather have a good working relationship with my customers (ie in this case the photographer). In the case of photographers, we do work on ...

Re: For New starters everywhere !
Phil - a well thought out business plan supported by a budget is the starting point - in the early months of trading constantly check actuals with budget and watch all outlays - don't get sucked into any significant advertising commitments - evaluate where your customers are coming from and build fr...

Found this to be an interesting site! John - what a range of product to manage, shift, present and be ever mindful of future trends to what must be a very supportive customer base - your summary ought to be a reference point for any framer contemplating broadening their product range Dermot - like J...

Re: Fuji Crystal Archive Supergloss (Fuji flex)
When you say you haven't done one of these, then don't even contemplate doing it We mount from time to time high gloss photographic images onto 10mm Gatorboard for a photographer - no real problems to date, but he can replace the image if there is a mounting problem However, it is when a customer br...

Re: Framing objects in a straight line
If you have a CMC, cut a matt-board with six openings appropriate for your ceramic letters and this will provide both correct spacing and the straight line you are seeking

A down under view Aine! Having read through these posts, it seems to me you are worrying unduely - you know you are doing good work, you have done plenty of canvas stretching and now you have one that is playing up You have got an unhappy customer - don't worry about a disclaimer with him - far bett...

Re: tightly rolled prints
Reverse roll an ordinary print/poster, then immediately economount it to Fome-cor - job finished and not waiting one or two days! The print/poster I am aluding to is generally a tightly rolled item - usually in a 20/25mm tube or plastic wrap I do treat limited edition prints differently to ordinary ...

Re: What Size??
Couldn't agree more Kev - after all, isn't that what custom framing is all about - frame to suit the subject matter and not just make the subject matter fit a given frame Rightly, or wrongly, we don't have a ready made frame on site - customers bring work to be custom framed and that is what we give...

Re: tightly rolled prints
I definitely wouldn't back roll limited edition prints - place them between suitable sheets of matt-boards and place weights on top and leave a day or two For ordinary prints, we use a reasonable size tube to which we have taped a 2 metre length of brown paper the same width as the tube - print is e...

Have a customer who has recently relocated in Brisbane after having spent 20 odd years in Papua New Guinea (PNG) - has a lot of bits and pieces he is slowly getting framed He currently has 2 shields being restored by a conservator - sizes are approx 1500 x 600 x 80mm and could weigh upwards of 50kgs...

Re: Networking & Corporate Sales
I have tried a couple of these types of morning meetings, BNI being one, but in the end the concept was not for me - the exchanging of leads was such a public exercise that if you didn't have any to pass on, it was obvious you were not participating as you were expected to. A plumber and electrician...

It sure is different on the other side of the world!! Re: Bogus art on Ebay.
Interesting ideas posted I operate a custom framing business, and once a person enters the front doors, I know they have come for the specific reason to have whatever they have in their hands framed I work with them, I discuss the options to frame each item and we settle on what they want for each p...

Re: Aboriginal Art fron Aus.
Did the customer see it framed when purchasing the canvas - do they have any preconceived ideas about what they want. If the answer to these two questions is no, then my approach to framing canvases such as this would be to use a distressed timber moulding that compliments the artwork colourwise - I...

an interesting video link - I couldn't hear her very well, so a couple of questions if anyone has the answer: 1. what was the spray she used on the paper - is it standard practice to apply such a spray to what might be a valuable item? 2. putting a piece of matt-board in the centre of the paper some...

a question for Jerome please
if your large pastel was set back over an 1" in the frame, how did you secure the piece to the back of the shadow box frame to hold it in place?
Thanks
